As we prepare for our forthcoming production of Patrick Hamilton’s classic thriller, Gaslight, we reflect on our two previous excurions into the fog-bound London of 1880.
Our first production of Gaslight was in 1965 and was produced by Ernest Reeves, a very familiar figure of the time. Unfortunalely, we do not have any photographs of this production at present but the information we do have can be found by folllowing this Gaslight link.
In 1995, we once more ventured into this dark Victorian thriller, under the Directorial guidance of Suzanne Davies. At this time, we have been able to unearth the programme and identify one photograph from this production. These can be found on this Gaslight page of our extensive historical archive.
One thing that these two programmes, together with our forthcoming production, have brought to light is the nature of the role of Inspector Rough – they have all been played (are being played) by leading committee members of the theatre – is this a character to watch out for????
With over 100 years of history, we have amassed a huge amount of photographs, programmes and newspaper articles. We are slowly sorting and digitising all of this material and adding it to our website.
