The Actor and Director
Arthur’s first appearance at The Rep was in Shaw’s “Arms and the Man” in 1951.
In subsequent years, he appeared in many other Rep productions including, “An Inspector Calls”(1952), “Madame Tic-Tac”(1953), “Pygmalion and Galatea” (1954), “To Dorothy A Son” (1954), “Point of Departure” (1954), “The Pomp of Mr Pomfret” (1955) and “Ann Veronica” (1956). His stage appearances at The Rep continued into the late 1970s.
During the 1950s, he also directed a number of Rep productions which included “Heaven and Charing Cross” (1955), “Escapade” (1956) and Graham Greene’s “The Living Room” (1957).
Arthur served as Chairman of The Repertory Players in its Jubilee Season (1970-1).
